ACTIVITIES FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY 2019

On 1st February 2019 Dharma Jyothi Social Centre had organized informative programme on ‘How to Prepare the liquid soap’ for the members of Self Help Group of Gurpur Village. 26 members were present for the programme. The members of the group acknowledged to prepare the soap water with low cost and to use it for the household.

On 4th February 2019 an awareness programme on ‘Impact of T.V and Mobile’ was organized by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre for the 25 members of Self Help Group at Kuppepadav. The members of the group came to know the effects of excessive use of T.V and Mobiles and thus to advise their children on the same.

On 5th February 2019 an awareness programme on Tuberculosis disease and ‘effects of plastics’ was organized by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre for the members of Self Help Group at Kethikal and Ashrayanagar, Mangalore. The members of the group got information about the cure of Tuberculosis disease. On that same day an awareness programme on ‘Leprosy disease and role of parents in the development of their children’ was organized by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre. 29 members of Self Help Group of Subramanya Nagara and Mangalanagar, Mangalore had participated. The members came to know the symptoms of the Leprosy disease.

On 8th February 2019 a talk was arranged by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre on how to prepare the Phenol for the of Self Help Group members at Gurpur. 18 members have participated the programme. The members of the group came to know to do the easy method of preparing the Phenol. On that same day an awareness programme on ‘Preparation for exams’ was organized by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre for 57 children of Government Primary School of Kudupu.

On 12th February 2019 an awareness programme on ‘Self Employment’ was organized by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre for 12 members of Self Help Group at Jyothinagar, Mangalore. The members gained the knowledge of doing the self employment.

On 23rd February 2019 an awareness programme by the Agriculture Department of Karnataka on ‘how to sow the seeds of vegetables and Fruits’ was organized at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre. Mr. Krishnappa Gowda and Mahesh the member of the Department of Agriculture were the resource persons. 87 members of self help group were present. 45 members of BPL holders received vegetable and pesticide kits. It was an effective programme as Krishnappa demonstrated on his work experience by slides and videos.

On 26th February 2019 an awareness programme on ‘Personality Development’ was organized by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre for 41 children of Government primary school, Kudupu. For this programme Mrs. Flavia, Head Mistress, Staff and Teachers were present. The children of Kudupu School became aware of how to improve their behavior and personality.



ACTIVITIES FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY 2019

On Jan 2nd 2019 an effective programme for children on ‘Akshara Gammathu’ was organized by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre for Government school children, Kudupu village. 54 students had taken part and enjoyed with lots of fun. Children learnt to draw pictures through alphabets and to make sentences, poetry etc.,

On Jan 8th 2019 at Amruthnagar, Vamanjoor there was a Christmas and New Year celebration by 16 members of Self help group. All enjoyed the programme.

On Jan 13th 2019, at Edurupadav Vamanjoor an awareness programme was held on ‘Environmental cleanliness’. Also a Shramadan was organized by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre for 35 members of the self help group. They decided to clean their surrounding of the area once in three months. On the same day information on Tuberculosis and Diabetes was given to 18 members of self help group of Kelaraikodi, Vamanjoor. Resource person was Mrs. Sharada.

On Jan 16th 2019 at Kudupu village an informative programme on ‘preparation of liquid soap’ was demonstrated for 11 members of self help group. All the participants gained the knowledge of preparing liquid soap. This will help them for self employment.

on Jan 19th 2019 representative Mr. Vivek Fernandes from Father Mullers, Deralakatte had given an information on ‘Homeopathic medicines’ to the members of Sauharda federation group. They got information on the use of homeopathic medicines and to get healed naturally.

On Jan 22nd 2019 at Shivanagara, Vamanjoor Sauharda federation president and secretary paid a visit to examine the self help group. They verified their savings, loan repayment and the regularity of the members. 35 members of 3 groups were present.



Year 2018 Events
ACTIVITIES FOR THE MONTH OF DECEMBER

On December 2, 2018 an awareness programme on ‘Self-Employment’ was organized by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre, for 8 members of self help group and along with them 8 men were there, at Edurupadav, Vamanjoor. All of them gathered the information on the self employment and planned to do so.

On December 3, 2018 an informative programme on ‘ Government facilities’ for building labourers was organized by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre, at Kuttipalke village, Vamanjoor. There were 14 members who gained the knowledge of governments schemes and facilities.

On December 3, 2018, the 20 members of the self help group, along with the Dharma Jyothi Social Centre, collected some amount of money and sponsored to a poor family at Kuppepadav.

On December 7, 2018, the Dharma Jyothi Social Centre distributed the K.M.C‘s free health cards for 55 members of Self Help Group, at Edurupadav, Mangalore.

On December 3, 2018 an informative programme on ‘the Government facilities’ for building labourers was organized by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre, at Kuttipalke village, Vamanjoor. There were 14 members who gained the knowledge of governments schemes and facilities.

On December 8,2018 an awereness programme on ‘effects of plastics’ was organized by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre for 15 members of Self Help Group, at Kelraikodi, Paddaibettu, Vamanjoor. Women came to know the affects by using the plastic bags and decided not to burn the plastics.

On December11, 2018 Awareness programme on ‘Women Empowerment’ was organized by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre for 16 self help group members, at Amrathnagar, Thiruvailu village, Mangalore. The women acknowledged that both men and women need to be treated equally. They will train their children in this regard and thus balance in their relationships.

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION

On 9th & 16th of December Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organized a ‘CHRISTMAS PROGRAM at Goretti Hospital Kallianpur and Vidya Jyothi School grounds Vamanjoor respectively. There were 1700 children were present along with the parents for the celebration. Fr Chetan OCD, Fr. Edwin Pinto Adyapadi Church were the resource persons. Sr. Zeena the President, Mr. Mohammad Haneef and Roshan Belman were the guests of honour. Sr. Reema , Sr Daphne, the Superiors Sr. Veera, Sr. Lenita, and Sr.Joel the Co ordinator of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre were present for the program. On this day there was a small cultural programme by children. There was a Santaclaus who brought joy in the face of the children. At the end of the programme the co-ordinator of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre distributed the Christmas gifts to all the sponsor children. All the children along with their parents enjoyed the festive meal prepared for them. The Program was well organized.



ACTIVITIES FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER

On 4th November 2018 an awareness programme on “Consistency of Vitamins and green leafy vegetables” was organized by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre for the Self Help Group at Nirala, Mangalore. 15 members were present. The members became aware of the consequences of junk food and decided to serve the nutritious food at home.

On 7th November 2018, an awareness programme on “Effects of plastic bags” was organized by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre for 20 members of Self Help Group, at Chilimbigudde, Mangalore. Women came to know the problems of using the plastic bags and how its harm to the society and decided to reduce the use of plastics.

On 9th November 2018, an informative programme on “Women’s law” was organized by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre for 62 members of Self Help Group at Gurpur, Mangalore. Mrs. Harini was the resource person. Through this programme women learnt their rights. On the same day 25 KMC health cards were distributed by Dharma Jyothi Social centre for self help group members of Moodushedde, Mangalore.

On 13th November 2018, information about bank loan for self employment was given by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre to the 15 members of self help group of Kethikal, Mangalore. They gathered information on the savings and business in their own way.

On 16th November 2018, “Children’s Day” programme was organized by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre for the children of Shalepadav and Edurpadav, Mangalore. 75 children enjoyed the programme. Few games were conducted. The children felt happy and enthusiastically participated in all the games.

On 17th November 2018, an awareness programme on “H1N1 Virus” was organized by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre for 48 members of Self Help Group at Pachanadi, Mangalore. Revathi and Divya (PHC of Shakthinagar) were the resource persons, Sr. Joel Co-ordinator of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre, Smt. Hemavathi, Mr. Shankar were guests for the programme. Everyone gained good information on H1N1 virus and assured their support to help others in this regard.

On 24th November 2018, an awareness programme on “Tuberculosis Disease” was organized by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre. Mrs. Ameesha District Programme Co-ordinator of KHPT, Thali, Mangalore was the resource persons. 65 SHG members have witnessed the programme. All the members have actively participated in the programme and became aware of the symptoms and consequences of Tuberculosis and decided to take care of their families.



ACTIVITIES FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER

On 1st October 2018, Senior citizen day programme was celebrated at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre. 38 members took part in it. Mrs. Nalini gave the talk on the benefits of Senior Citizens, few games were conducted. Mrs. Renita spoke about the food habits. All the participant were given gifts and refreshment. The programme went on well. Everyone felt happy and actively participated in the programme. On the same day an awareness programme on ‘food and health’ was organized for self help group of Kuppepadav village in the morning. 26 members witnessed the programme. Mrs. Lilly Mary was the resource person. Everyone came to know how to prevent the chronic diseases such as Cancer, Tuberculosis and so on.

On 5th October 2018, an awareness programme on “the role of parents for upbringing their children” was organized by Mrs. Shalini for the Self Help Group, at Gurpur. Mrs. Renita gave talk on role of parents. 18 women have witnessed the programme.

On 7th October 2018, an awareness programme on “Health and Hygiene” was organized by Mrs. Shalini for Self Help group at Shalepadav. Mr Ramesh was the Resource Person 28 women have witnessed the programme.

On 14th October and 21st October 2018 there was Career Guidance programme was arranged at Dharma Jyothi social centre for the high school students. 100 children along with their parents have attended the programme. Mr. Vincent Pinto was the resource person. The talk was effective and informative. The children actively participated in it.

On 22nd October 2018, an awareness programme on ‘adolescence’ was organized by Mrs. Lilly Mary and Mrs. Renita for children of Vidya Jyothi School. 103 boys have witnessed the programme. The children became aware of their personality.

On 26th October 2018, a programme on “Protection of women” was organized by Mrs. Shalini for Self Help Group Kobbelachchil. 20 women have witnessed the programme and women gained knowledge on how to protect themselves.



ACTIVITIES FOR THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER

On 2nd of September 2018, the Dharma Jyothi Social Centre, organized a programme on effects of the Mass Media at Shalepadav. Sr. Treeza, M.S.W student of Roshni Nilaya was the resource person. 42 members were present for the programme.

On 5th September 6th September and 7th September 2018, an orientation programme was organized for B.S.W and M.S.W students of Puttur and Sullia and Yenepoya College. Sr. Joel, Mr. Nagendra Rao, Mrs. Shalini and Mrs. Lilly Mary were present for the programme. There were altogether 50 students.

On 7th of September 2018 Teachers Day was celebrated at Moodushedde Village. Mrs. Shalini staff of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre was the resource person. 45 members were members.

On 15th September 2018, Bank loan for self help group members of Bhagya Jyothi Shivanagar was distributed. Mrs. Lilly Mary, staff of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre distributed the amount. 12 members got benefit from this amount.

On 20th of September 2018, the Dharma Jyothi Social Centre conducted an awareness programme on Cancer disease at Pachanady village. Mrs. Savitha Shamboor, Health Centre of Puttur was the resource person. There were 22 members present for this awareness programme.

On 21st of September Teacher’s day was celebrated by Self Help Group members at Edurupadav village. Mr. Lilly Mary was the resource person. 28 members were present for the programme.

On 22nd September 2018, an adolescence programme was organized for the children of Vidya Jyothi School. Mrs. Lilly Mary and Mrs. Renita were resource persons. 88 girls and 103 boys witnessed the programme.

On 22nd September Federation meeting was arranged for all self help group of Dharma Jyothi Centre. 68 members have attended the programme. Sr. Joel, Mrs. Renita and Mrs. Thilaka were the resource persons.

25th of September 2018 an awareness programme on balance diet was organized for the members of Self Help Group of Sethikal village. Mrs. Sumathi was the resource person. 16 members have participated in the programme.



ACTIVITIES FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST

On 4th August 2018, Shramadan programme was organized for children by the self help group members of Moodushedde. Smt. Shalini, Smt. Sunanda and Ayesha initiated the programme and 35 children took part in it.

On 06th August 2018, ‘Vanamahostava’ programme was organized for self help group members of Kuppepadavu. Sr. Rekha from Mariagiri convent was the resource person. 20 members have witnessed the programme. On 17th August 2018, ‘Vanamahostava’ programme was organized for Kudupu school children. 57 children have participated the programme. Sr. Trissa Lidiya, Mr. Lokesh, M.S.W students from Roshni Nilaya College were the resource persons.

On 8th August 2018, ‘Aatidonji Koota’ programme was conducted by the self help group members of Kudupu, Shalepadav and Kuttipalke village. Sr. Winnifred, Mr. Nagedra Rao, Smt Shalini, Mr. Hariprasad Shetty, president of Gram Panchayath, Naveen, member of gram Panchayath, Janardhan and Ramesh were the resource persons were the guests. 315 members have attended and enjoyed the programme. On 14th August 2018, ‘Aatidonji Koota’ programme was conducted by the self help group members of Kethikal village. Sr. Joel, Mr. Nagedra Rao, Smt. Shalini were the resource persons. 35 members were attended the programme.

On 10th August 2018, 20 M.S.W students and 2 lecturers Ms. Prathiba and Mr. Senthil from St. Philomena College, Puttur had visited Dharma Jyothi Social Centre. Sr. Joel, the Co-ordinator and the Social workers of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre explained about the various activities of the Centre.

On 15th August 2018, Independence Day was celebrated by the self help group members of Edurupadavu, Shalepadav and Kelaraikodi. Mr. Suresh, Mr. Pathunji Mr. Janardhan, Mr. Ramesh and Mr. Nagendra Rao were the resource persons. 155 members have attended the programme.

On 19th August 2018, self help group members of Kelaraikodi celebrated 15th Annual day of their self help group, Sr. Joel, Mr. Nagendra Rao, Smt. Hemalatha -Thiruvail Corporator, Mr. Raghu, Mr. Umesh, Kiran Kumar and Smt. Thilaka were the guests of honour. 125 members were attended the programme.



PROGRAMS OF JULY 2018

On 8th July 2018 a talk on ‘Empowerment’ was conducted to the self help group members of Shalepadau. Mr. Nagendra Rao, Janardhan and Ramesh were the resource persons. 36 members have witnessed the programme.

On 9th July 2018 environment day programme and shramadhan (voluntary contribution) was conducted for the self help group members of Kuttipalke village. Mrs. Shalini Kotian and Mr. Suresh committee member were the resource persons. 22 members have attended the program. Environment day was celebrated on 17th July 2018 for the self help group members of Bondanthila. Sr. Joel Lasrado and Smt. Yashodha, Ex. President of Gram Panchayath, Neermarga were the resource persons. 32 members present for the programme. On 18th July 2018 environment day was celebrated at Aramane Government High School, Kuppepadav. 126 children were celebrated the environment day. Sr. Joel and Head Master of High School and Lilly Mary were the resource persons.

On 11th July 2018 vegetable seeds were distributed to self help group members of Kudupu village to grow some vegetables in their garden available at home for the healthy living. Mrs. Lilly Mary was the resource person. Seeds were distributed to 12 members.

On 13th July 2018, awareness programme about contagious diseases was arranged for self help group members of Gurpura. Smt. Presilla Menezes and Mrs. Shalini Kotian were the resource persons. They have given information about the cause of spreading of malaria and dengue. Total 22 members attended the awareness programme.

KMC Health cards were distributed on 13th July 2018 to self help group members of Moodushedde. Mrs. Lilly Mary from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre was the resource person. Health cards were distributed to 18 members.

On 14th July 2018 an awareness programme of clean environment and ‘Vanamahostava’ was organized for self help group members of Edurupadav. Sr. Joel from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre was the resource person. 65 women and children have witnessed the programme.

On 20th July 2018 ‘Kali Nali’ programmes was organized in Kudupu School. The resource persons were Mr. Lokesh, Ms. Ankitha and Sr. Trissa Lydia, students of M.S.W from Roshni Nilaya College. 42 students participated in that programme. Children enjoyed preparing various items out of paper.

On 28th July 2018 an awareness programme on ‘Self Employment’ was organized by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre for all self help group members. Ms. Anitha Kumari was the resource person. 73 members have benefited from the programme.



PROGRAMS OF JUNE 2018

On 08th June 2018, health and cleanliness awareness programme was organized for the self help group members of Gurpura. Mr. Uday Kumar was the resource person. 17 members have attended the program.

A talk on ‘Self Employment’ was organized on 09th June 2018 for self help group members of Kulshekar. Smt. Shalini was the resource person. For the first time they took loan from the bank to start new business. 15 members were present for the meeting.

On 13th June 2018, awareness programme about contagious diseases was arranged for self help group members of Pachanady. Smt. Shalini Kotian was the resource person. She has given lot of information about malaria and dengue and how it spread from one person to another. The talk was very effective to the group members.

On 9th June 2018, 20 members from Yedurupadavu self help group took loan of Rs. 15,00,000/- from Vijaya bank for repair of house, school and college fees. Loan amount was equally shared by the group members.

On 24th June 2018 awareness programmes about contagious diseases was organized for self help group members of Thoipakal village. Smt. Thilaka was the resource person.

On 25th June 2018, awareness progamme was arranged to the self help group members of Shivanagar . Smt. Vedavathi, member of Panchayath has given lot of information about availing facilities from Panchayath. 15 members were present for the programme.

On 23rd June 2018 Ramzan program was conducted by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre. All self help group members have attended the program. Smt. Zeenath, Sr. Joel Lasrado and Mrs.Thilaka were the resource persons. There were 73 members who witnessed this meeting.



PROGRAMS OF FEBRUARY, MARCH, APRIL, MAY 2018

On February 10, 2018 an awareness programme on Health and environment was given to 55 students. Mrs. Ramya was the resource person and it was an effective talk for the students of Government school of Edurupadav Village.

On March 2, 2018 a phenol training was organized for the women of Ashraya Nagar. On 5th March 2018 an awareness programme was arranged for the women of Kuppepadav regarding the water harvesting and careful use of water. There were altogether 32 women who have participated in the above programmes. Then on 9th March, 2018 there was a cleanliness campaign by the MSW students of Roshni Nilaya at Kudupu. Awareness was given to the Government School children of Kudupu school. 70 students have participated the programme.

On 18th March 2018, an awareness programme was arranged for the parents of sponsored children at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre. Mr. Alban Rodrigues, Retired Principal was the Resource Person. He gave a talk on parent’s responsibilities towards their children’s education. 183 parents have attended the programme.

On April 8, 2018 there was a free medical camp which was organized jointly by KMC Attavar and Dharma Jyothi Social Centre Vamanjoor. Mr. Albert the resource person was present for the programme along with 5 doctors and nurses. Sr. Winnifred SRA inaugurated the camp and Sr. Joel SRA the co-ordinator, Mr. Nagendra, Mrs. Lilly Mary, Shalini and MSW students were present. 115 people benefited from the camp. The spectacles were distributed at the concession rate.

Summer camp was held for the children at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre from 11th April to 13th April 2018. The Resource Persons were Br. Vinay, Br. Adarsh, Br. Avin and Staff of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre. The children were dealt on various topics like health, leadership, relationship, use of media, communication, cleanliness and so on.

On April 11, 2018 on the first day of the camp there was a health campaign. Mr. Jayaram Head of Department from Government Health Centre, Vamanjoor was the resource person. He gave talk on various types of nutritious and healthy food. He also asked the children to grow some vegetables in their garden available at home so that they can eat the food that is healthy.

On the 3rd day all the children were split into groups in order to create 5 children clubs from June onwards in their respective villages. Thereafter the children were taken for an outing to Pilikula planetarium. Since there were lack of seats available they were directed to Regional Science Centre and enjoyed their time. After the lunch all the children were rewarded with a gift each as a remembrance of the Summer Camp 2018.

On April 15, 2018 an educational tour was organized for the federation group members. There were 40 present along with 4 staff. We started at 8.00 am and firstly visited Jain Basadi, Mrs. Radhika’s house to witness her success on self employment on Papad, pickles and various other items. All the members were overjoyed and surprised to hear her story and want to give a try. Thereafter we visited the temple, Manipal museum and to Kaupu Beach. The group returned with thanks to the almighty God at 8.00 pm.

On 7th May 2018 an awareness programme on guidance career was arranged to the parents of Kuppepadav village. Smt. Suveja member of Self Help Group shared her experience about her daughter studies and how she reached her goal. 15 members were present for the programme.

On 15th May 2018 an awareness programme about children’s rights was arranged to the members of Self Help Group at Kethikal Village. Mrs. Lilly Mary from Dharma Jyohti Social was the resource person. 15 members were present.

Letter Writing and Distribution of Educational Requirements for the sponsored children from April to June 2018
In the April, May and June there was letters collection and distribution of educational requirements like fees, books, uniform, stationery and bag to all the sponsor children and a set of note books were also given to their siblings.



PROGRAMS OF FEBRUARY 2018

On 12/2/2018 to 14/2/2014 there was a staff picnic to Chennai. We 15 staff enjoyed visiting St. Thomas Mount, Churches, temple, zoo, beach and railway museum.

On 15/2/2018 there was a programme arranged for the Self Help Group members of Kuppepadav. 20 members have participated. Talk was given regarding how to prepare the children to write the exams effectively and relaxingly.

On 16/2/2018 a programme was arranged in Moodushedde on Pulse Polio. 15 members of Self Help Group took part in it. The resource person was Mrs. Leelavathi, Anganwadi teacher. This programme was effective for women.

On 23/2/2018 a programme was arranged for 26 children of Moodushedde village. It was a day of joy and happiness as children enjoyed in various games and fun.

On 23/2/2018 the federation meeting was organized at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre, Vamanjoor During which parents meeting and picnic was discussed. There were 57 members present for the same.



PROGRAMS OF January 2018

On 5/1/2018 Aam Admi Government Scheme amount distribution programme was held at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre. There were 167 children who got the scholarship amount. Mr. Nageendra Rao, Lilly Mary and Mrs. Shalini were present for the programme.

On 8th January, 2018 there was a Christmas get together held in Kuppepadav. There were 30 Self Help Group members of Christian, Hindu and Muslim present for the progamme. Sr. Rekha, SRA was the resource person and all of them shared their joy in eating the sweets and dishes prepared by the members. It was more of ecumenism celebration.

On 9th January, 2018 a new Self Help Group was inaugurated at Kudupu. There were 13 members present in the new group. Sr. Joel the Co-ordinator was present along with Mrs. Lilly Mary the field staff of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre.

On 19th January, 2018 there was a Federation held at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre. Sr. Joel the Co-ordinator, Programme Co-ordinator Mr. Nagendra Rao, Mrs. Shalini and Lilly Mary were present for the programme. There were 67 members who witnessed this meeting. The members decided upon going for study tour, to start children’s club and organize medical camp in the coming days

On 16/1/2018 a talk was organized for the Self Help Group members of Ashraya Nagar about Self Employment and how to sale the products. Mrs. Lilly Mary was the resource person. There were 33 participants.




Year 2017 Events

Christmas Celebration

Christmas is the festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, embraces his message of love, peace, humility, forgiveness and sharing. To share the love and spirit of Christmas, we at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre had organized the Christmas celebrations for the sponsored children.

On 10th December 2017, Christmas celebration was held for the sponsored children of Kallianpur at Milagres Church Hall. 250 children and parents took part in the celebration. Fr. Leslie D’souza, the Chief Guest inaugurated the programme and gave the Christmas message. Sr. Daphne D’souza , Sr. Lenita , Sr. Bertha and Sr. Joel the Co-ordinator of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre presided over the function. Dance and Tableau was enacted by the children. Each sponsored child was presented with a Christmas gift and festive meal was served to all.

On 17th December 2017 Christmas celebration was held for the sponsored children at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre, Vamanjoor. Fr. Cliford Fernandes was the chief guest and gave the Christmas message. Sr. Zeena D’souza, SRA, Sr. Reema, Sr. Joel and Mrs. Helmalatha Salian, the Corporator presided over the programme. The children presented the dance, skit and tableau on the birth of Jesus Christ. To enhance the joy a Christmas meal was served and gifts were distributed to all the sponsored children. There were about 1500 children and parents participated in the programme.




PROGRAMS OF OCTOBER 2017

Medical Camp was held on 8/10/2017 at Kuppepadavu at 9.30 to 1.00 pm. Jointly organized by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre and Yenepoya Medical College . Fr Valerian, Sr Joel SRA Mr Gregory and Mr Razak were the guests of honour. There were 130 members benefitted from this Free general Camp.

There was a nutrition program was held for the pregnant women of Kuppepadavu on 2/10/2017. Mrs Benedicta, Asha Worker conducted the awareness program and there were 20 members present for the same.

In Kuttipalke on 6/10/2017 there was a program on Muncipality facilities to the women of SHGs. Mrs Shalini the Staff of DJSC was the resource persons. There were 18 members present.

In Jyothi Nagar on 17/10/2017 and Kethikal on 22/10/2017 there was an awareness on Minority benefits to the women. Mrs. Naseema and Shalini was the resource persons who gave this awareness to 28 members.

There was an awareness program for the women of Edurpadavu on Panchayat benefits on 15/10/2017. Mrs Pushpalatha, Asha worker was the resource person; there were 37 members present for the same.

In Kombelachil on 21/10/2017 there was an awareness program on Nutrition. Mrs Lilly Mary staff of DJSC was the resource person. There were 13 members benefitted from the same.

In Moodushedde on 6/10/2017 there was an awareness on the exploitation of women of SHG . There were 16 members present for the same.

In Kulshekar on 14/10/2017 there was awareness on Unity for the 16 new members of SHG. Mrs Shalini , staff of DJSC was the resource person.

On 27/10/2017 there was a Federation meet at DJSC. 60 members took part in the program and the members were once again made aware of the Finance MUDRA loan that is available for the Self Employment. And encouraged them to avail this facility.




WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

  • On 4th and 13th September, 2017 there was an awareness regarding the health and nutrition program for 25 Self Help Group women by our staff at Kuppepadav and Pachanadi by the MSW Students and Mrs. Lilly Mary . The members were made aware of the healthy nutrients that are required for the body along with their children. Many women had some problems or the other regarding their ill health. The members were encouraged to attend Early Cancer Detection Camp which was organized by A.J Hospital and Ave Maria Palliative Care jointly at Mangala Jyothi on 12th September.
  • On 9th September 2017 there was a teachers day celebration was held in order to promote communal harmony at Vamanjoor. Dharma Jyothi Co ordinator was invited for the same. There were Muslims, Hindus and Christian 102 women were present for the progamme. All the speakers were women and they stressed unity and harmony in the society. After the program sumptuous meal was served for all.
  • On 11th September Teachers day program was conducted at Moodushedde by 35 Tuition children . They performed program and games for the teachers and honored them with prizes. It was a good motivation program.
  • On 10th, 17th and 22nd September at Vamanjoor, Moodushedde and Kelrai an awareness program was conducted on MUDRA LOAN and MINORITY BENEFITS by Mr Nagendra Rao . The 75 Women SHG members were encouraged to make use of this opportunity and to be Self Sufficient. It was also instructed to take care of all the required documents for the same.
  • On 10th September the Girls Child day was celebrated in Vamanjoor Parish. Lot’s on fun, games and Competitions were organized for the girls by the women cell members. Fr Cyprian Pinto, Sr Joel Lasrado SRA, Mrs. Assumpta, Shalini and all the members were present for the same. All were made known about the beauty of a girl child in the family. 75Members witnessed this great event.


ACTIVITIES OF DHARMA JYOTHI SOCIAL CENTRE IN AUGUST 2017.

On 6th August 2017 there was a program conducted on clean environment by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre to the Community of Moodushedde village. There were 28 members present for the same. The members cleaned the surroundings and learnt the importance of the same.

In Kuppepadav village on 7th August 2017 there was a program on Atid onji dina was organized by the Self Help Groups of 35 members. Rev. Fr. Valerian, Mr. Nagesh ZP member, Mr Jerome Pinto Panchayet Member, Sr Joel SRA Director of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre, Sr Rekha SRA , Superior Maria Giri Convent and Mrs. Shanthi Pinto, president Women Cell was present for the same. Members cooked 20 items and all of us ate the food as a mark of solidarity with them after a short program .The members recalled the traditional old days of celebration . Mr Nagesh spoke on the difficulties of the olden days and adding to which Rev Fr. Valerian recalled the memories to the members.

On 8th August 2017 a program at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre Vamanjoor was organized on Kitcken garden by the Agriculture department and DJSC jointly. 100 members were present for the program. Mrs. Uma , Asst. director of the department , Mr. Somappa and the staff were present. TP member Kavitha , Sr Joel SRA, Co ordinator of DJSC were present on the dais. Mrs. Uma speaking to the members spoke on the importance and the need of consuming the vegetables grown in our own garden. Ms. Michel was the resource person , she explained in detail through the power point presentation the growth and the care of the product. 75 members were awarded with a KIT each consisting of mat, seedling box, water sprinkler, oil and tools. The members who received the KIT were happy to take them to their homes.

A program on ‘Atid onji dina’ was celebrated in Kudupu on 9th August 2017. Sr Joel , the director of DJSC,Mr Nagendra, Mrs. Shalini and Mrs. Lilly Mary the staff of Dharma Jyothi were present for the same. There were 20 members present. They cooked 22 items and served with love and gratitude. Sr Joel spoke on the tradition we need to carry on to the younger generation. Mr Nagendra spoke on the changes in the environment. Sr Shalini and Lilly appreciated the members for their co operation and the interest they have in the activities of the Self Help Groups.

In Ashray Nagar on 11the Aug 2017 there was a program on the Self Employment for 15 members. 8,00,000/- loan was sanctioned by Vijaya Bank to the 15 SHG members. The staffs of Vijaya Bank visited the group and were satisfied in their performance. Since the members were regular in repaying the loan they were able to get this huge loan amount. The members used this amount on Self Employment.

Mr Aithappa, sick and bed ridden, our neighbor at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre was helped in providing the basic needs of the amount Rs. 3000/- as it was very difficult for him. He was happy to receive the mat, mattress, bed sheets, Linen and nutritious food items for his survival on 7th August 2017.

On 11th August 2017 in Moodushedde village there were Competitions held for children in view of Independence day. There were Speech, Singing and drawing competitions were organized. The winners were awarded with the prizes on Independence day . 30 children took part in all the competitions.

On 15th August Independence day was celebrated in Moodushedde village. There were Staff of DJSC Mrs. Lilly Mary, Mr Ramesh, President Yuva Jana Seva Samste and Mr Sunil, Panchayat member were present for the program. There was a crowd of 65 members. The members recalled the freedom fighters and paid homage to them. Sweets were distributed for all.

On 16th August there was a special visit to Bengre village near Bandar Mangalore to the Muslim community. DJSC served 17 years in this village and since they were self sufficient we thought of discontinuing from our Institution. Hence we have terminated the 5 SHG groups from our Sowharda Federation since 16th August 2017.

On 18th August 2017 there was a Federation meeting was held on Cancer awareness program by Ms. Laveena, Dr. Naveen Rodrigues, Dr Kamamlaksha Shenoy and Ms Maria the Counselor , Sr Joel , Director of DJSC, Mr Nagendra Rao, Program co ordinator were the guests of honor. They informed the members about the early detection and the screening camp organized at Mangala Jyothi on 17th September 201 7and to be a part of the same. There were 87 members witnessed the event.

On 28th August there was a program on Atid Onji dina in Moodushedde village. Sr Joel , Director of DJSC, Mr Sunil , Mr Hari Prasad, Mr Ramesh and Mrs. Baby were on the dais. There were 115 community members were present. There were 22 items were cooked by the members. Various competitions were conducted for the members and were awarded with the prizes. Festival meal was served for all.

On 22th Aug 2017 there was an orientation program by the MV Shetty college students around 25 members paid a visit to the Centre. Sr Joel the director of DJSC in her introduction spoke about the various spheres where we work among the children, women and adult of the communities. Mr Nagendra Rao speaking to the students made aware of the recent facilities and job opportunities for the students that are available. Mrs Lilly spoke on the formation and the benefits of Self Help Groups. Mrs Vidya Madam presented the token to the centre. All the students were happy and went back renewed. All were served with juice and biscuits.




Dharma Jyothi Social Centre, Vamanjoor – Women Empowerment Program

On 8.7.2017 there was a learning program conducted in Pavoor , Manjeshwar. The co ordinator of Dharma Jyothi Sr Joel Lasrado SRA, Local Superior Sr Agatha AC along with the Social Worker Lilly Mary 20 women of the Self Help Group were gathered in the Church campus. They were made aware of the value of Self employment and their role in the education of the children. They were motivated to be self-sufficient. And on 14.07.2017 there was an input session in Moodushedde on Kitchen Garden by Mrs. Lilly Mary. There were 15 members present.

On 15.7.2017 there was a learning program to the young students of Kudupu Government School. The school children were very excited with the songs and games conducted by the BSW students of School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya Mangalore. There were 52 students present for the program.

On 23.7.2017 and on 28.07.2017 there was awareness on the need of LIC to Self Help Group Women at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre Vamanjoor. The members were the representatives of 60 SHGs and the members of the Sowharda Federation. There were around 70 participants. Mr. Raghu and Mrs. Rachana were the resource persons.

On 9.7.2017 a talk was organized for 40 Women of Pachanady and Kelari, Neermanrga on Communicable Diseases which they easily prone to get during rainy season. Mrs. Shalini was the resource person. On 12.7.2017 awareness to the women of Kelrai regarding the home remedies for their ailments. There were 15 members present for the program.




ACTIVITIES OF DHARMA JYOTHI SOCIAL CENTRE IN JUNE 2017.

June 4, 2017 in Moodushedde and Kuppepadav Village there was an input on Herbal medicine for 60 women. Mr. Ashok Herbal medicine producer was the resource person. On June 15, 2017 in Dharma Jyothi Social Centre there was a meeting for the 82 member representatives were gathered for a half days session on Leadership and sharing the views and On June 17, 2017 there was a form collection of 150 new members and 380 existing members for the Janashree Insurance project.

On 1.4.2017 Candle Training was held at Pavoor for 11 Self Help Group Members. Women were happy to learn the new trade.

Carrier guidance at Kuppepadav on 3.04.2017 for Women 13 members were present.

Edurpadav Teenage training on Leadership on 19.04.2016 and 30 members took part in it.

Health Check up by Kankanady, PHC Shaktinagar in DJSC 10.5.2017 held at DJSC and 103 patients benefitted from the program.

KMC health Card was distributed for 30 Women of Shalepadav community on 10.04.2017.

International Women’s Day

On 8th March 2017 International Women’s Day was celebrated at Vamanjoor junction. The President of Dharma Jyothi Sr. Zeena D’souza, SRA, Superior Sr. Reema Crasta SRA., Corporator Mrs. Hemalatha Raghu Salian, Advocate Mrs. Asharani Mada, Co-ordinator Sr. Joel Lasrado, Sra and the President of Women Federation Mrs. Amudha Mary were the guests of honour. The programme was inaugurated meaningfully. Few slogans were announced and Mrs. Asharani Mada spoke on the legal awareness and the free service of advocate that is available in the court for the assistance of poor families. There were 450 women witnessed this event. Mrs. Hemalatha wished well for all women. The President brought an awareness to educate the girls and to fulfill their dreams. A Lucky woman of 2017 Mr. Nebisa was selected and was honored. The prizes were distributed prizes for the Self Help Groups which function well. Thereafter we proceeded to Science Museum at Pilikula. There an awareness talk was given by Mr. Rao on Science and Women. After few games all the participants watched the science museum centre followed by festive meal which was served for all. All the women enjoyed a lot.




Information regarding Panchayat facilities

Information was given to 32 Women in Moodushedde village regarding the Panchayat facilities such as Housing, Composed Pit, Suraksha Card and new site for construction. In Kuppepadav regarding various job vacancies available in different departments to be applied for their children. 28 women participated in this programme. There was an awareness regarding the strengthening of the members and to build a village welfare committee. Mr. Mohammed was the resource person and 40 were present for the same. Leadership and Career Guidance programme was organized in Mangal Nagar and Edurpadav for Women and Children. There were 55 participants. It was teaching and learning experience. The members enjoyed the session. An Awareness was conducted on Nutrition for Pregnant women at Parari and Pachanady village about parents role in children’s education. 33 women witnessed these talks.




A talk on Self Employment

A talk on Self Employment - a Mudra Scheme from the Government which is easily available was introduced to the Self Help group members of Sethikal village on 21/02/2017. The initial amount is available Rs.50,000/- to 1,00,000/- for a micro project. One member has already succeeded in availing this scheme.




Awareness programme

Women are constantly prone to exploitation, abuse, harassment and rape. Hence an awareness programme was organized on 20/02/2017 to overcome these barriers and to avail free assistance/guidance from Judiciary/Court for women whenever they come across such problems.




Janashree Scheme

On 17/02/2017 Janashree Scheme which is combined with Insurance and Scholarship was organized and 65 members were the beneficiaries of the Scholarship.




Talk on Unity and friendship

On 12/02/2017 a talk was given on Unity and friendship, in order to get rid of envy, jealously and selfishness. It was to sow the seed of love and fraternity among the families and create a love relationship among children and the neighbourhood at Pachanady.




Awareness on adult education for their children

On 10/02/2017 the women at Moodushedde were given awareness on adult education for their children. To consume nutrition and healthy food for their growth as well. 28 women participated in the programme.




An awareness was created in women on Breast and Uterus cancer

On 08/02/2017 an awareness was created in women on Breast and Uterus cancer at Kelrai church. They were instructed to examine themselves. The tricks and the methods were taught. If they find any such symptoms are asked to refer to a good doctor immediately. The session was good and interactive.




An awareness programme on Tuberculosis

An awareness programme on Tuberculosis, its symptoms and treatment was organized to the Self Help Group members of Moodushedde village on 5/2/2017. Thirty Eight members have participated in the programme.




Trained to make liquid soap

On 04/02/2017 Women in Pavoor are trained to make liquid soap and to make use as home products.




Free Eye Camp

Free Eye Camp was organized on 15th January, 2017 at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre in collaboration with Christopher Association and Yenopoya Hospital, Deralakatte. Mr. J.R.Lobo (MLA South), Sr. Reema, SRA Superior, Mr. Harold D’souza, Mr. Susheel Noronha and Sr. Joel - SRA, Co-ordinator of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre presided as Chief Guests. Doctors of Yenopoya Hospital conducted the camp. 200 people benefited from this camp. 104 free spectacles were distributed from Christopher Association and 10 people were advised for cataract free surgery.

On 18th and 19th January 2017 an awareness talk were arranged at Pachanady and Kutikala Village. Information on “Mudra” – Micro Unit Development Refinance Association (Government Loan) was imparted to the participants. Mr. T.N. Nagendra Rao was the Resource Person. 32 people have participated in the programme.

On 8th January, 2017 a talk on atrocities against women was imparted to Self Help Group members at Kelarai. Mrs. Supritha from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre was the resource person.




Annual Day of Self Help Group

Annual Day of Self Help Group of Pilikula was celebrated on 24th January, 2017 at the Science Centre in Pilikula. 14 members have participated in the programme. Various games were conducted for the participants.




Cooking without fire competition

On 22nd January 2017 ‘Cooking without fire’ competition was organized for the women and children Club’s members at Edurupadav village. 18 varieties of nutritious food were prepared without fire. 60 women and 40 children participated in the competition. Sr. Joel Lasrado and Sr. Denzie presided the programme.




Talk was given on moral values, discipline and how to bring out their hidden talents

A programme was held for the children of Edurupdav Village on 21st January 2017. Talk was given on moral values, discipline and how to bring out their hidden talents. Games were conducted and the winners were given prizes. 40 children participated in the programme.




Information on Legal Marriage Registration

On 17th January 2017 information on Legal Marriage Registration was given to the Self Help Group Members of Kethikal. Mrs. Sujatha from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organized the programme. 30 members have participated in the programme and were convinced of the same.




Artificial ornamental training

On 15th January, 2017 an artificial ornamental training was given to the Self Help Group Members of Thoipakal. The Staff of Dream Zone Training Institute Mangalore were the Resource Persons.




A programme was held at Pachanady village regarding demonetization of bank notes

A programme was held at Pachanady village on 12th January, 2017 regarding demonetization of bank notes. Mr. T.N. Nagendra Rao from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre was the resource person. He told the participants regarding demonetization and the problems faced by the people and he further explained them the main intention of demonetization is to curb black money. 20 Self Help Group members have participated in this programme.




Preservation of Culture and Tradition

On 1st January, 2017 a talk was given at Moodushedde village on the preservation of culture and tradition. Mrs. Lilly Mary from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organized the programme and 30 people have participated in the programme.




Year 2016 Events

Christmas Celebration:

A Christmas celebration was held in Kallianpur on 04/12/16 for 150 beneficiaries and their parents. The Kolalgiri boarding children performed beautiful dance and Christmas tableau and Fr Edward enlightened on the meaning of Christmas and Sr Joel highlighted about the joy of sharing followed by Agape and a token of our love Christmas family gift was given to them.

A Christmas celebration was held at Vamanjoor on 11.12.2016 for 950 beneficiaries and their parents. Mr J.R Lobo, (MLA South, D.K) Fr. Roshan Crasta (Director Muller’s Hospital Tumbe), Rev. Sr Zeena D’souza - the Province Animator, Fr Cyprian Pinto, parish priest of Vamanjoor, Sr Reema community Animator and Sr. Joel the Co-ordinator of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre were the guest of honour. It was a great event for all the members as we inaugurated the Christmas programme. Mr. J.R Lobo was honoured and the students who have scored highest marks in SSLC/PUC/ Degree were honoured. Students from Vidya Jyothi and St Joseph entertained the crowd with their beautiful performance. There was a Christmas tableau and variety of dances. After which there was a Christmas festival meal served for all and as a token of our love Christmas family gift was given to all. Around 1300 people witnessed the event.

On 12/12/2016 Christmas programme was held in Uppinangady for 90 beneficiaries and their parents. There were few dances and Fr. Nicholas OFM of Bannur, Puttur parish priest broke the word of God, Mr. Robert Vice president of Uppinangady parish, Sr. Elveena SRA and Sr. Joel SRA were present along with the Dharma Jyothi Social centre staff. After the festive meal they were given Christmas gift as a token of our love.




Information on benefits of Ayurvedic medicines for Breast and Ovarian cancer

A programme was held on 09/12/2016 at Kelarai church for 22 Self help group members. The members were given information on benefits of Ayurvedic medicines for Breast and Ovarian cancer. Mr. Devkumar was the resource person.




Blood test camp

On 05/12/2016 Blood test camp was organized in Kudupu Village. Fifty seven children took part in it. Public Health centre nurses conducted the blood test and the children were informed about their blood group.

Lilly Mary from Dharma Jyothi Social centre organized a talk session for the teenagers on 05/12/2016. They were told about the need for starting a children’s club through which they can develop their leadership skills and ways to handle societal problems.

An awareness talk on protective measures while using cooking gas was given to Moodshedde community Self Help group members on 2/12/2016. People were motivated to take proper responsibility while operating gas for daily use.




Prevent contagious diseases like Malaria and Dengue

Importance should be given to prevent contagious diseases like Malaria and Dengue. This talk motivated the women to take preventive measures and maintain cleanliness and Hygiene. About 15 people took part in this awareness programme at Kelarai Kodi on 1.12.2016.

On 28.11.2016 a programme was held at Gurpur Junior college for the parents. The interest of children towards studies is diminishing and parents need to guide their children towards a bright future.

Information on availing government resources and self employment was imparted to Self help group members and youngsters on 25/11/2016. About 17 members participated in the programme at Kelarai kodi.




Senior citizen’s day

Senior citizen’s day was celebrated at Mangala Nagara village by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre on 20/11/2016. This programme was conducted with the intension to build unity among the senior citizen’s by organizing further national and religious programmes.

On 11/08/2016 A programme on Adolescent and challenges they face and how to work it out was held at Mangala Jyothi School. Mrs. Sujatha Shetty from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organized and was the Resource Person. Fifty Five students participated in the programme.




Information session on protection of environment

7/8/2016 Information session on protection of environment in related to land, water and clean environment at Vamanjoor Church premises for 25 Self Help Group members. Mrs. Supritha was the Resource Persons at the programme. Mrs. Latha organized the programme.




Cleanliness drive programme

On 6/8/2016 in order to keep the environment clean, cleanliness drive programme was organized by Mrs. Sujatha Shetty at Jyothi Nagar Village. Twenty Five members of Self Help Group participated in the programme.

On 2/8/2016 Aforestation Programme was held at a village called Kuppepadav. Mr. T.N. Rao of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre was the Resource Person. Mrs. Latha from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organized the programme. Thirty members of Self Help Group participated.




Health Information on contagious diseases

On 2/8/2016 Health Information on contagious diseases like Malaria, Dengue, Chicken Gunya was imparted to 5th to 9th grade of Government School at Shalepadav village. Dr. Arunkumar from Primary Health Centre was the resource person. He clearly explained the causes and the prevention and treatment aspect of the disease. Fifty students attended the talk. Mrs. Sujatha organized the programme.




Skill training

On 25/07/2016 for Self Employment purpose a skill training on making of liquid soap was taught to 2 self help group members at Bengre village. Mrs. Zainabi one of the member of Self Help Group was the resource person. Twenty two members participated in the programme. Mrs. Latha from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organized the skill training programme

Corporator Mrs. Kavitha Sanil came as a Resource Person. Self Help Group President Mrs. Hemalatha Soans, Mr. Shankar Shetty, Sr. Joel and the staff of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre were present as other guests in the programme. Hundred members of Self Help Group participated in the same. Mrs. Sujatha from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organized the programme.




Information on growing up into puberty and adolescent and challenges

On 21/07/2016 and 22/07/2016 information on growing up into puberty and adolescent and challenges was imparted to the 7th and 8th grade children of Vidhya Jyothi School and Moodushedde High School children. Fifty students from Vidhya Jyothi and 188 students from Moodushedde High School participated in the talk. Mrs. Sujatha from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre and Mrs. Harini from Deeds were the resource persons at the programme.




Vanamahotsava was celebrated at Moodushedde Tuition Club

On 8/07/2016 and 9/07/2016 Vanamahotsava was celebrated at Moodushedde Tuition Club and Moodushedde community Hall respectively. Forty seven children from tuition club, 7 M.S.W students along with Dharma Jyothi Social Centre staff were present at Tuition Club and 57 people from the community and Dharma Jyothi Social Centre staff participated in Moodushedde Community Hall afforestation programmes respectively. Mrs. Lilly Mary of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organized the programmes.




Summer camp was organized at Dharma Jyothi social centre

Summer camp was organized at Dharma Jyothi social centre from 11.04.16 to 16.04.16. The resource persons for the camp were Br. Vinay, Br. Leenu, Br.Avin, Mr Sharath Shetty ,Mr Dinesh Holla and Staff of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre. The total number of children who participated in the programme were 97.
The Resource Persons gave talks on leadership and parental relationship. Slides were shown on parental hardship and challenges faced by handicaps. Children were taught to enact skit, action songs, games and preparing kites and flying them. The children participated in all activities organized for them with interest and were joyful.




An awareness programme

An awareness programme was held on 24.02.2016. The programme was jointly organized by Yedurupadav Gramina development group, Zilla lawyers federation and educational trust. The resource person for the programme was Mr. Ganesh, District Civil Judge, the president of lawyers council Mr. Ragavendra, Mrs Sheena Shetty from Jana educational trust and Sr. Daphne from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre. Domestic violence and child exploitation are one of the problems prevailing in our society. This programme was held on World Day of Social Justice to give awareness to the women about the laws pertaining to their safety and to find a permanent solution to their problem.




Information session on Thyroid disease

On 25/01/2016 information session on Thyroid disease took place at Sethikal village. Mrs. Mohini from Primary Health Centre was the Resource Person. She explained about the causative, preventive and treatment aspect of thyroid disease. Twenty Self Help Group members participated in the programme. Mrs. Neetha from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organized the talk.




Skill training on Art and Craft

On 24/01/2016 skill training on Art and Craft was organized at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre. Mrs. Rohini from Puttur was the resource person. She taught 27 enthusiastic young women how to make fancy art and craft items. Mrs. Lilly Mary organized the programme.




Information on Career Guidance

On 22/01/2016 Information on Career Guidance was organized at Village Development Centre at Pilikula, Vamanjoor. Mr. Ganesh Kumar was the resource person. Twenty Five youth participated in the programme. Mrs. Lilly Mary from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organized the programme.




Inauguration of Beautician Course:

In order to encourage and motivate young women for self employment, 2 months of beautician course training was launched at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre. Inaugural function of the course was held on 18/01/2016. Mr. Shivaprasad Rai Co-ordinator of WPT (Women’s Polytechnic Training Bondel, Manglore) was the Chief Guest and Sr. Daphne D’souza, Co-ordinator of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre was the Chair Person at the programme respectively. Mr. T.N. Rao, from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre, Mr. Rakesh, Women’s Polytechnic College and Mrs. Savitha, Beautician Teacher were also present. Mrs. Sujatha from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organized the programme. Twenty Eight young women enrolled for the training course and they participated in the programme with great enthusiasm.

Christmas Celebration

We are the instrument in the hand of God and His love compels us to reach out to the needy and poor people. With these thoughts during this beautiful season of Christmas commemorating the birth of our Lord Jesus, we at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre had following Christmas Programmes:
On 6th December 2015, 102 sponsor children from Kokkada gathered for Christmas celebration at St. John’s Convent, Kokkada. Sr. Leenet, SRA inaugurated the function and Mrs. Precilla D’souza was the Chief Guest. Sr. Leenet gave the Christmas message. A short tableau was enacted by the children. Each child was excited to receive Christmas gift and to partake in the festive meal.
On 13/12/2015 210 sponsor children gathered for Christmas celebration at Kallianpur, Udupi District. Fr. Vijesh Menezes the Chief Guest inaugurated the programme by cutting the cake and gave the Christmas message. Sr. Daphne, the Co-ordinator of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre presided over the function. The children presented a dance and drama on the birth of Jesus Christ. To enhance the joy and fellowship a Christmas meal was served and a gift distributed to 210 sponsored children who gathered with their parents.
On 20/12/2015 Christmas celebration was held at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre for all the sponsor children to share the love and spirit of Christmas. Fr. Anthony Kunnel was the chief Guest and he gave Christmas message. Sr. Clarice SRA was the President at the function. The children presented a short tableau, dance and drama on the birth of Jesus Christ.

Information on gender issue was imparted to the community children of Moodushedde village on 16/12/2015. Mrs. Sujatha from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre was the Resource Person. Fifty five students participated in the programme.

On 12/12/2015 an awareness programme was organized for daily wagers doing menial jobs and maids. The topic was on “Equal wages for all which promotes Social and Economic development”. Mr. Sathish Kumar from Labour Department was the resource person. Mrs. Sujatha from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organized the programme.




Information on availing schemes on Rozghar Project

On 10/12/2015 Information on availing schemes on Rozghar Project was imparted to 40 participants at Shivanagar Friends Club. Mr. Pradeep Kumar and Ms. Maithri from Panchayat were the resource people at the programme. They explained about different availing schemes under this project. Participants were motivated to applications to get card for this purpose. Mrs. Sujatha form Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organized the programme.




Celebration of Deepavali Festival was organized at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre

On 19.11.2015 and 21.11.2015 Celebration of Deepavali Festival was organized at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre and Shivanagara, Moodushedde. Rev. Sr. Daphne D’souza was the chairperson. Sr. Linet, Mr. T.N. Rao, Mrs. Asuntha, president of Souhardha Federation and Vasanthi, Kasturi and Kavitha – Panchayat members were the chief guests. Mrs. Lilly Mary and Mrs. Sujatha Shetty from Dharma Social Centre organized the programme. Two Hundred and Sixty members participated in the programme.




Skill training on preparing of Surf Powder

On 2/11/2015 skill training on preparing of Surf Powder was conducted at Kuttikala village. Mrs. Latha Fernandes of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre was the Resource Person and organizer of the programme. Twenty Five women participated in the programme.




Am-Admi Scholarship Distribution Programme

On 31/10/2015 from 2.30 to 4.00 p.m. Am-Admi Scholarship Distribution Programme was organized at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre. Shankar V. Hegde, Divisional Manager of Life Insurance Company of India was the Resource Person, Mr. Melwyn D’souza, member of Jilla Panchayat was the Chief Guest and Rev. Sr. Leenet, Dharma Jyothi Social Centre was the Chairperson. The resource person explained about the benefits of Scheme. Eighty students received the scholarship under this scheme. Eighty four members have participated in the programme.




Positive and Negative impact of media

On 30/11/2015 at Vamanjoor, Information on “Positive and Negative impact of media” was imparted to the adolescent children. Mrs. Neetha Sequeira was the Resource Person. Mrs. Latha organized the programme. Twenty adolescent girls participated in the programme.




Input session for adolescent on ‘growing up’

On 9/10/2015 and 10/10/2015 input session for adolescent on ‘growing up’ was imparted to High school children of Vidya Jyothi School. Ms. Supritha, Sr. Mary and Mr. Durga Prasad were the resource persons at the programme. Two Hundred and Sixty (260) students attended this session. Ms. Supritha from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organized the programme.




Motivating talk was given on how to strengthen the weaker groups and build them into becoming a strong team.’

On 5/10/2015 for the members of Souharda Federation, motivating talk was given on how to strengthen the weaker groups and build them into becoming a strong team. Ninety eight members participated in the programme. The programme was held at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre. Mrs. Sujatha was the Resource Person.




Information on cancer – tobacco, heart attack, lung cancer, oral cancer was given to the community members of Moodushedde village.

On 04/10/2015 from 4.00 to 6.00 p.m. information on cancer – tobacco, heart attack, lung cancer, oral cancer was given to the community members of Moodushedde village. Mrs. Mazi Jose – Yenepoya Hospital was the Resource Person. Eighty seven members participated the programme. Resource person explained that how consuming tobacco through cigarette is causing lots of harm to the body and it is causing cancer.

On 7/9/2015 Information session on availing resources from Government and Panchayath was imparted to community people at Kuppepadav village of Bantwal Taluk. Mrs. Shalini was the resource person. Thirty six people participated in the programme. Mrs. Latha from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organized the programme.




Teachers Day

Teachers Day celebrated at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre, Vamanjoor on 5/9/2015 at 10.30 – 12.30 p.m. Sr. Daphne D’souza was the Chair Person at the programme. Teachers were honored during the programme. Mrs. Sujatha welcomed the gathering and Mrs. Latha proposed the vote of thanks.




Information on Thyroid Disease

On 29/8/2015 from 2.30 to 3.30 p.m. Health awareness talk on ‘Thyroid Disease’ was imparted to 95 members of federation group. Dr. Shivananda Prabhu (Head of Department – KMC Hospital) was the Resource Person. He informed the women about the cause, symptoms and treatment for Thyroid disease.




Candle Making Training

On 27/8/2015 Candle Making Skill Training was given to 25 members of Self Help Group at Ashraya Nagar Village. Mrs. Lilly Mary was the Resource Person. This programme was organized by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre in order to motivate women for entrepreneurship purpose.




On 25/8/2015 talk on uses of various medicinal plants and importance of breast feeding was given to 25 Self Help Group members at Pachanady village. Mrs.Lilly Mary was the Resource Person. Mrs. Shalini, staff of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organized the programme




Atrocities on Women & Law:

On 13/08/2015 at 11.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. a talk on “Atrocities on Women and Law” was given to a Self Help Group at Parari Village. Ms. Supritha, the Counsellor of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre was the Resource Person. She narrated to the members the atrocities faced by the women in their own homes and in the society. She gave awareness to the group of the existing Constitutional laws for prevention and protection of these women who undergo such violence. Twenty women participated in the talk. Mrs. Neetha a staff of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organized the programme.




Ramzan Celebration:

On 9/8/2015 from 11.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. Ramzan Festival celebration was held at Edurupadav, Moodushedde Village. Rahamath Mansoor, Mangalore, Sajida Momin, Secretary Jamathe Islamhind Mahila Wing, Mangalore Rev. Sr. Daphne D’souza, Co-ordinator of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre, Sr. Lynette and T.N. Rao, Mrs. Geetha and Mrs, Mohini, Panchayat Members, Moodushedde presided in the programme. Mrs. Rahamath Mansoor was the Resource Person. She imparted about the importance of Ramzan Festival. On 24/7/2015 from 2.30 to 3.30 p.m. awareness talk on availing resources from Government for daily wage building workers was conducted at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre, Vamanjoor. Mr. T.N. Rao the staff of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre was the resource person. Twenty Five (25) building workers participated in the programme. Mr. T. N. Rao explained in detail about the availing resources like Health, Educational facilities, Employment opportunities, Accidental death fund, Marriage fund for Workers children and subsidy to build houses, etc. Educational scholarship application were distributed to the participants. Mrs. Latha, staff of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organized the programme.




A talk on adolescent phase and changes was imparted to the students of tailoring class.

On 23/7/2015 from 10.30 to 11.30 a.m. a talk on adolescent phase and changes was imparted to the students of tailoring class. Mrs. Sujatha Shetty was the resource person. The students came to know about the physical, mental, emotional changes and development during adolescent phase.




At Jyothinagar Community of Vamanjoor, a talk on Empowerment of Self Help Group

At Jyothinagar Community of Vamanjoor, a talk on Empowerment of Self Help Group was organized on 21/7/2015 from 10.00 to 11.30 a.m. Mrs. Sujatha Shetty was the resource person. Members were motivated to mobilize themselves in creative activities in oneness of spirit and service mindedness to build themselves. This will in turn lead them to become self sufficient and progress for the higher development in society. Twenty one (21) Self Help group members participated in the programme.




Awareness talk on Dengue and Malaria fever

On 16/7/2015 awareness talk on Dengue and Malaria fever was imparted to 20 Self Help Group members at Parari Village. Mr. Arun Kumar, Health Inspector from Primary Health Centre - Vamanjoor was the resource person. He gave detailed information on causes and treatment plan for these diseases. He stressed on preventive and curative aspects of these diseases from spreading. Mrs. Neetha from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organized the programme.




Dental Camp

On 15/7/2015 Dental Camp was organized from 10.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre at Pavoor Village near Manjeshwar. Fr. Aloysius the parish priest of Pavoor church presided the programme. A.J. Hospital Dental team of Doctors conducted the dental camp. Two Hundred and Thirty Four (234) School children from Pavoor village benefited from the camp. After testing those who were identified with the dental problems were called to A.J Hospital for further treatment. In order to motivate the students to keep the dental hygiene free colgate paste was distributed to each one of them.




Awareness Programme on Government facilities

On 14/7/15 awareness programme on availing government facilities were held at Kethikal village from 11 .a.m. to 12.00 p.m. Sr. Lynette, SRA was the Resource person at the programme. Mrs. Lilly Mary of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre was the programme Incharge. Thirty Five Self Help Group members participated in the programme.




Awareness Programme

On 8/7/2015 from 11.30 to 12.30 p.m. Awareness programme on availing resources from Panchyath (Government Local bodies at village level) at Kelarai church hall, Neermarga – Mangalore was organized by Mrs. Neetha - Social Worker of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre. Mrs. Latha Fernandes from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre was the Resource Person. Members of Self Help Group received information on BPL (Below Poverty Line) card benefits, old age pension and government free housing scheme, etc. Twenty members of Kelarai Self Help Group participated in the programme.




Training session on Puppet making

Training session on Puppet making and other crafts were held at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre Tailoring Unit on 7/7/2015 between 11.00 a.m. to 1.30. p.m. Mrs. Lilly Mary from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre was the Resource Person. Skill training on puppet making, mat, counterpane and duster was taught to the students. Twenty two students from Tailoring Unit participated in the training.

On 05/7/2015 from 4.00 to 5.00 p.m. awareness programme on prevailing diseases like Dengue, Malaria and H1N1 was conducted at Shalepadav village of Vamanjoor. Mr. Ramesh, president of Yuvajana Seva Sangha presided as Chair Person. Mr. T.N. Rao from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre was the Resource Person. Mrs. Lilly Mary a staff of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organized the programme. Forty eight members of Yuvajana Seva Sangha participated in the programme. Resource Person gave information on causes and symptoms of these diseases and preventive, promotive and treatment aspects of these diseases.

On 06/07/2015 Awareness Programme on Dengue, Malaria and H1N1 diseases were conducted at Kuppepadav Village from 11.30 a.m.to 12.30 a.m. Mrs. Latha Fernandes, social worker of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organized the programme. Thirty Five women from 3 Self Help Groups of Kuppepadav village participated in the programme.

On 6/07/2015 Awareness Programme on Dengue, Malaria and H1N1 diseases were conducted at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre from 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. Mr. T.N. Ro was the resource person. Mrs. Shalini Kotian social worker of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organized the programme. Twenty four Hombelaku (widows) members participated in the programme.




Free Medical Camp:

A General Free Medical camp was organized by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre at Shalepadav in Moodushedde Village on 24/05/2015 with the co-operation of Lions Club Urwa Stores, Lions Club Balmatta, Kulal Sangha Moodushedde and Yuvajana Seva Sangha, Shalepadav. Sr. Daphne D’souza, Co-ordinator of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre inaugurated the medical camp. A team of A.J. Hospital doctors conducted the camp.

Free medicines were distributed by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre and free spectacles were distributed to the needy people by Lions club Urwa stores and Lions Club Balmatta. Other arrangements were done by Kulal Sangha and Yuvajana Seva Sangha. A medical card is distributed to each patient for free treatment. A total of 203 people from the nearby villages benefited the medical camp




Women Family and Stress

On 18/05/2015 a talk on “Women Family and Stress” was organized at Permanki village. Ms. Supritha from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre was the Resource Person. Ten women from “Swathi” Self Help Group participated in the talk. Mrs. Latha from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organized the programme.




Summer Camp:

Inaugural function of 4 days summer camp was held at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre on 5/5/2015. Sr. Daphne was the Chief Guest at the programme. Sr. Shirley and Mr. T.N. Rao organized the camp.

05/052015 to 08/05/2015 various activities and programme were organized for children. From the local community a total of 106 school children ranging from 5th to 9th grade participated in the camp.

Along with action songs, games, dramas, skit play, dance, quiz and skill training, talks on leadership, child rights, negative and positive impact of media, health and hygiene and personality development were organized for the camp children. Community staff of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre and Mr. Vinay were the resource persons.

Closing ceremony of Summer Camp was held on 9/5/2015 at Science Centre Pilikula, Moodushedde. Prof K.V. Rao was the Chief Guest at the function.

Cultural Programme was put up by the camp children. Prof. K.V. Rao appreciated the different activities conducted for the children.

Children were taken to zoo, park and science centre. In the afternoon a good lunch was provided to the children at Pilikula Park.




Awareness Programme on availing Government Resources

On 4/5/2015 a talk was organized on “Availing resources from the Government” to a new formed Self Help Group at Parari village. Mrs. Lilly Mary, staff from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre was the resource person. As a result members gained awareness on what are the availing resources from Government and how they can get benefit from it. Eighteen Self Help Group members participated in the talk.




Labourer’s Day Celebration

Labourer’s Day celebration for all the staff of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre was held on 2nd May 2015. Sr. Daphne presided as the chief guest at the function. In her talk she said people cannot do all the work by themselves. Division of Labour is very essential in society. This produces labour with different skills to do different work. We have to respect all the labourers. For eg: The worth of hard working manual labourers are not recognized. We take them for granted. Through their hard work infrastructure and buildings come into existence. Because of their hard toil basic requirements like houses are available for people to stay. This in turn causes people to enjoy comfortable life. Recognition of all the labourers worth is important. Therefore social attitude towards menial labourer has to change in the society

Games were organized for the staff and suitable prizes were distributed to winners. Sr. Daphne the Co-ordinator of Dharma Jyothi Social centre distributed gifts to the staff. Thirty staff participated at the programme.




Summer camp for chidlren at Pavoor village

A 2 days summer camp was organized at Pavoor village on 28th and 29th April 2015 from 10 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. The president and Chief Guest at the programme were Fr. Aloysius, Priest of Pavoor parish and Sr. Avita respectively. Inaugural ceremony was done by Sr. Shirley, Assistant Co-ordinator of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre. Sr. Shirley and Mrs. Neetha, staff from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre were the resource persons at the camp. Mrs. Lilly Mary, staff from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre and Fr. Aloysius organized the camp.

Talks on value education, health & hygiene, drawing, quiz, songs and games were the activities conducted at the camp. In the afternoon lunch was provided to children. Children enjoyed the camp. A total of 40 children participated in the camp.




Pre Natal & Post Natal care for Mother and Child (National Safe Motherhood Day)

Commemorating National Safe Motherhood Day Awareness Programme on Pre Natal and Post Natal care for Mother and child was organized at Padu Bodanthila Village jointly by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre and A.J. Hospital on 25/4/2015 from 10.00 to 12.00 a.m. Dr. Larissa Martha Sam and Mr. T.N. Rao presided as President and Chief Guest at the programme respectively. Dr. Veena Bhagvan was the Resource Person. Forty (40) women participated in the programme.

Resource Person Dr. Veena Bhagvan explained as to how important the pre natal and post natal care for the mother and child. Conception and the growth of foetus in the womb was explained through the power point presentation. A small skit was played by A.J. Hospital Nurses regarding care, support and respect received by Pregnant woman in the family. Pamphlet regarding the above issue was distributed to the participants.

Result: Village women gained a lot of knowledge regarding pre natal and post natal care of mother and child.




Distribution of Educational Requirements for the sponsored children in the months of April and May 2015

Distribution of Educational requirements like books, uniform, stationery, bag, a set of uniform are distributed to the sponsor children from the month of April onwards. Some amount of school fees is paid to these children. Writing books are distributed to their siblings too.




Tuberculosis Awareness Programme

Awareness talk on Tuberculosis disease was imparted on 12/4/2015 at Pilikula Village from 3.30 to 4.30 p.m. Twenty women participated in the programme. Mrs. Neetha was the Resource Person. She gave awareness to the participants regarding the spread of Tuberculosis disease, its symptoms and treatment plan.




Programme for Woman and Family

Talk on “ Woman and Family” was imparted at Thoipakal village of Vamanjoor on 29/3/2015/ from 2.30 to 3.30 p.m. Ms. Supritha was the Resource Person. She explained about the different role a woman has to play in her family. She is like a pillar in the family. Challenges and stresses the woman undergoes while playing the multi roles and the ways to overcome it. Eleven members of Self Help Group participated in the programme.

Result: Women could identify their own problems and challenges while giving the talk. After the talk they could ventilate their feelings out by sharing these and get support from each other.




Women’s Day Celebration:

Women’s Day was celebrated at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre on 22/03/2015 from 11. a.m. to 3.00 p.m. Sr. Zeena SRA presided as President and Mrs. Shambavi, President Moodushedde Panchayath presided as guest of honour respectively at the programme. Mrs. Hemalatha R. Salian, Corporator Thiruvail Ward inaugurated the programme. Mrs. Merlyn Martis presided as Chief Guest and gave keynote address to the gathering. She said that in the family it is the woman who works hard for the all round development of that family. She is the pillar of the house.

Seven Hundred and Fifty Six (756) women from different villages around Dharma Jyothi Social Centre participated in the women’s Day celebration.

A cultural programme was organized by the Self Help Group women. At the end lunch was provided which is cooked by the women themselves.




Distribution of Sewing Machines:

Fifty sewing machines were distributed to 50 deserving girls and women from the very poor background, who have completed their 6 months of Tailoring Course at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre. The programme was held on 19/03/2015. These sewing machines were donated by the agency Caritas Prague at Czech Republic.




Free Medical Camp

Commemorating Women’s Day a free medical camp was organized at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre on 28/02/2015 from 10.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. Sr. Daphne D’souza SRA from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre inaugurated the program. Dr. Kavitha D’souza presided as Chief Guest, Dr. Amritha Bhandary as an honorary guest and Dr. Larisa Martha Sam as President at the medical camp inaugural programme respectively.

A team of doctors from A.J. Hospital conducted the medical camp on gynaecological problems for women, testing for breast cancer and uterus problems. Sixty eight poor women participated in the medical camp.

After check up 32 women ‘s report came as negative and 33 were called for further investigation at A.J. Hospital. If needed blood test and surgery will be done free of cost at A.J. Hospital for these patients.




Distribution of Tailoring Course certificates

On 5/3/2015 a programme of distributing tailoring course certificates were held at Dharma Jyothi Social Centre. 50 students who had undergone tailoring skill training at Tailoring Centre of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre received the certificates. Sr. Daphne presided as President and Mrs. Latha the social worker and Mrs. Malathi the tailoring teacher were present at the programme.
